In the years before the First World War brought the First Era of Western Canadian polo to a sudden end, the Prairie West could boast more than a dozen fine polo clubs in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. In addition to local tournaments which saw play among as many as nine teams, clubs were travelling regularly to matches in Eastern Canada and even taking their ponies as far south as California while home-grown Alberta professionals were being seen on the polo fields of Toronto, Montreal, Saratoga and San Diego.
