As Alberta’s polo teams began to travel east and south at the turn of the last century, their home-bred ponies proved themselves superior to anything they faced and the business of raising, training and selling horses emerged as an integral part of the Western game. Before the Great Depression ended polo’s first Golden Age, Western Canadian ponies, in their hundreds, had found their way onto playing fields across North America.
